Irene Goodnight

Goodnight Irene, goodnight Irene

In other words, vacation's over and this damn hurricane is supposed to show up tomorrow and turn Manhattan into Atlantis.

Oh well. Let's ignore Irene, Queen of the Hurricanes, while we still can. Maybe it's all just a false alarm anyway. Usually is, when people have prepared adequately.

I was just in Turkey, having a lovely time in Alanya and Istanbul.

Unfortunately, I am a terrible vacation photographer, so bad that my friends frequently said, "You know, that would be a good shot", to which I would reply, "Oh yeah, nice", and stare vaguely into space, until startled into action by "SO WHY DON'T YOU TAKE A PICTURE?" Probably because of this, some of the pictures I'm posting, the best ones I'm sure, were taken by my friend. Aaaand I only have one picture of myself, and you can't even tell where I am. Just couldn't do the standing in front of monuments thing, I think because in Alanya, girls kept doing the sexy scenic poolside glamour shot thing, and while they were happily arching and pouting away, I--I was embarrassed for them, and just in general.

I am going to follow this post with a Turkish shopping post. Mad loot to buy there, good prices too.

OK! Picture time!

WHAT ARE THOSE? Really, do you know?

One of the two cistern Medusas. I can't tell you how much I love these girls. Isn't she adorable with her pug nose and toothy little smile?

Istanbul is the city of cats. They are everywhere.

This cat left his dinner to visit me and climb into my bag. I like to think he knew I missed Lou and was trying to console me. I wish I had a picture of cat friend in my bag, but I took his picture and put the camera in the bag, and then he got in the bag, so I couldn't get the camera out again.
